Article: Translink under pressure for a better and cheaper service

Last year, Translink cost the taxpayer over Pounds 109m. Northern Ireland Railways, Ulsterbus and Metro are the main providers of public transport services and, currently, face little competition (other than from private cars).

Regional Development Minister, Conor Murphy, has launched a three- month consultation on a proposed shake up, challenging any complacency in the management structures. In a well researched analysis, he has been shown, by a complex set of comparisons, that today's Translink services are "commendable and critical" achievements.
