The process people go through when they worry about losing a job
in some ways mirrors the process one goes through preparing for
retirement, said John Diehl, senior vice president of investments
and retirement at Hartford Life Insurance Co.
"People facing the potential loss of a job ask themselves, 'What
if I lose my job - what kind of standard of living am I going to be
able to maintain?' and 'Where is the income going to come from?'"
Diehl said. "In a similar fashion, those are the questions you have
to ask as you face retirement: 'If I have no income or a reduced
income, where will it come from?' The answer is, your retirement
portfolio. What might that look like?"
