Official election results

It is unfortunate that neither Eric Hartley, "Democrats' win is not a mandate" (The Capital, Nov. 5), nor Paul Foer ,"Now that he's elected, will Cohen really bring about change" (The Capital, Nov. 5), waited to learn the official results from Tuesday's general election before discounting Josh Cohen's win in the three-way race for mayor.

Certainly it is true that the election was won by Mr. Cohen with less than 50 percent of the vote. But is that surprising in a three- way race with a determined Independent siphoning votes from both major candidates? Apparently so because Mr. Hartley declares the win "not impressive" while Mr. Foer refers to it as a "narrow victory."
