BILLERICA
HELP FOR THOSE LAID OFF - The US Department of Labor is offering
assistance to about 135 workers affected by the closing of Jabil
Circuit Inc. in Billerica. Awarded to the Massachusetts Department
of Workforce Development, the $827,000 National Emergency Grant will
be handled by the Career Center of Lowell and will provide
dislocated Jabil workers with support services, such as child care
and transportation. Layoffs at Jabil took place between May 1 and
Sept. 1. The emergency grant will help laid-off workers enter
training programs and acquire skills needed to find jobs in emerging
sectors of the economy, according to a written statement by
Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis. ...
