Here is a brief riddle: how is it possible that I have been
travelling around the world in two pairs of shoes and yet never left
home? Despite being static, how have I left a bigger carbon
footprint than the time the cat walked across the barbecue? Well,
let me tell you - only with steamer trunks full of guilt. The truth
is it all started as a bit of fun - words I'm sure once spoken by
Anni-Frid Lyngstad (born today in 1945) a member of the pop quartet
Abba. No doubt they initially got together for a laugh and had no
idea it would eventually end in the horror of Pierce Brosnan trying
to sing and Meryl Streep wearing dungarees.
