Article: OK State Fair cut to 11 days

The Oklahoma State Fair has been cut to an 11-day event for 2004.

The fair's board of directors on Tuesday approved dates for the 11- day State Fair in 2004, a format the State Fair followed for 40 years. The State Fair expanded to 17 days in 1989, coinciding with the yearlong celebration of the 100th anniversary of the 1889 land run.

The board's decision came after research, which involved discussions with exhibitors, promoters and fairgoers. The Oklahoma State Fair joins several other major state fairs with 11- to 12-day operating calendars, including the New York State Fair, Minnesota State Fair, Ohio State Fair, Alaska State Fair, Florida State Fair and the Maryland State Fair.
