Article: Commentary: Okla. governor's cigarette tax in state of flux

Given the current anti-tobacco mania, it is difficult to believe trying to pass a net increase of 52 cents per package on cigarettes and additional taxes on other forms of tobacco will be more difficult than getting the gambling expansion bill through the House of Representatives, but that may be the case.

Admitting it will be difficult, Gov. Brad Henry is determined to make an all-out effort to get the issue to a vote of the people at the November general election. The bill barely made it out of committee on a 5-4 vote and is pending on the House calendar.
