Article: Oklahoma lawmaker warns of threat to labor regulator authority

Oklahoma businesses may be put in legal jeopardy as an unintended consequence of a law that goes into effect July 1, state Sen. Patrick Anderson said Friday.

Anderson, R-Enid, has asked that the Oklahoma Legislature reconvene during the last week in June in order to change part of the workers compensation bill lawmakers passed just two weeks ago.

Senate Bill 1X, signed by Gov. Brad Henry on June 6, contains a provision that would eliminate the authority of the Oklahoma Department of Labor to issue certificates of non-coverage to contract workers who are not required to be covered under the business's insurance policy.
