Article: Heartland Flyer ridership jumps 23%

The Heartland Flyer enjoyed a 23 percent increase in passenger traffic for the fiscal year ended Sept. 30, with 66,968 tickets sold. That brought the route's total number of users to 370,707 since its inaugural run on June 14, 1999.

The Heartland Flyer's ridership increase outperformed all other independent short-distance routes in Amtrak's rail service, officials said.

On a national level, Amtrak ridership rose for the third straight year, from 25,053,564 to 25,374,998. This came despite service disruptions that included the major hurricanes in the southern United States.
