Hood River Parks Development Committee moves forward with plans for waterfront park

Longtime Hood River residents still tell stories of Koberg Beach - of young women and men donning prom dresses and tuxedos, riding down to the beach to dance to the sounds of a big-band swing orchestra. From 1915 to around 1950, residents insist, Koberg Beach was the place to be.

But as construction of the Bonneville Dam came to an end in 1938, Koberg Beach slowly began to disappear under the water line of the Columbia River, and Hood River lost one of its most popular recreation sites. Today, the beach is a modest spot for travelers along Interstate 84 to stop and stretch, and for locals to picnic and launch their sailboards.
