The summer is normally tough on blood bank donations, but this
year the Oklahoma Blood Institute reported a certain class of donor
deferrals is on the rise: those who are recently tattooed.
The institute will hold a blood drive 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. in
downtown Oklahoma City at the Chase Tower. The Bedlam football-
themed drive is sponsored by Devon Energy Corp.
Institute spokeswoman Heidi Cohn said that in 2005, the nonprofit
group deferred 1,278 potential donors because they had recently
gotten tattoos. The institute has to defer about 43,000 donors ...
