Montgomery County will redouble its efforts next year to improve
special education in public schools, with an emphasis on making
special education students successful in general education
classrooms, according to a proposed school spending plan.
Last week, Superintendent Jerry D. Weast unveiled his budget
proposal for fiscal 2006, which would increase spending by more than
$109 million over the current budget. About $26 million of the
increase would be dedicated to a variety of programs designed to
boost student achievement, particularly the achievement of the more
than 10 percent of students who qualify as requiring some degree of
special education.
