As celebrations go, last night's party marking the 30th
anniversary of the Supreme Court's decision in Roe v. Wade was
decidedly bittersweet. The star-studded event, hosted by NARAL Pro-
Choice America, was filled with defiant speeches about women's
freedoms -- and with dire predictions about the future of abortion
rights in the United States.
"If Roe is overturned, women will return to -- and die in -- the
back alleys of this nation," warned Kate Michelman, president of the
abortion rights group.
This night was designed to scare the dickens out of the 1,200
guests, mobilize the troops and get the message out to vote for
