Leonard Moore "Bucky" Walters, 84, who worked for the Federal
Bureau of Investigation from 1942 to 1973 and retired as an assistant
director, died March 10 at the Hospice of Frederick County. He had
cancer.
Mr. Walters was a special agent in other states before being
assigned to headquarters in 1961. He held such jobs as director of
the investigative staff of the House Appropriations Committee, chief
of the accounting and fraud section and special agent in charge of
the Norfolk office. He was assistant director his final four years
there.
He was a key figure in the group of FBI officers who threatened a
walkout unless then-Acting Director L. Patrick Gray III withdrew his
name from nomination ...
