Carrie Higdon, a sophomore pitcher for the La Plata softball team,
has missed much of this season while recovering from rotator cuff
surgery in her right shoulder. The operation stunted her season to
the point that she made just her third start Monday.
But she had more than enough for Thomas Stone.
Higdon mixed her pitches enough to propel the host Warriors to a 6-
1 Southern Maryland Athletic Conference victory over the Cougars.
La Plata had lost its March 24 season opener to Thomas Stone, 12-
2, but Higdon made sure that wouldn't happen again.
Mixing a menacingly slow change-up with a sharp fastball and a
riseball, Higdon allowed only three hits, struck out seven and walked
