Even though legendary rodent Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow
early this month, predicting six more weeks of winter, this is the
time of year that many start thinking about summer and warm-weather
activities. For a lot of folks that means day trips or vacations to
amusement parks. Sound like fun? Not to some people.
There are, in the hallowed halls of Washington, those who can't
resist the urge to attempt to fix what isn't broken. For the past
several years Massachusetts Rep. Edward Markey has introduced into
the House a bill that would extend the reach of the Consumer Product
Safety Commission to cover permanent amusement parks. His reasoning
