Dude ranch uses horses, solitude to help heal wounds of Sept. 11

Call it dude therapy.

After Sept. 11, Shelly and Greg Williams, owners of the Powderhorn Guest Ranch in southwest Colorado, wanted to help. Through two dude ranch trade associations, the couple designed the 9-11 Ranch Relief Program, which offers free dude ranch vacations to families of firefighters and police officers directly affected by the terrorist attacks.

The idea appealed right away to Jimmy and Jeannine Lahrman, Jimmy says. "We both grew up in Long Island, and we went back to visit in October and saw the devastation."
