ENGLEWOOD - He's off to one of the finest starts by a running back in NFL history, but ironically LaDainian Tomlinson's 2002 campaign started with a whimper.

A severely sprained ankle forced Tomlinson to miss most of the San Diego Chargers' training camp and preseason. He returned for the final exhibition game, uncertain of how quickly he could shift into gear for the regular season.

The answer came quickly. As the Chargers have sprinted to a 4-0 start, they've been tied to the back of Tomlinson, a shifty 23-year- old budding superstar entering his second season.
