Although it's surrounded by kitschy tourist shops and glittery
nightclubs, you'll find no plastic souvenirs or plastic people at
Pischke's Paradise in downtown Scottsdale.
A sign at the entrance reads "No Sniveling," a reminder to check
the attitude at the door.
Owner Chris Pischke, a bearded, burly figure with a penchant for
custom-made Hawaiian shirts, has made this no-nonsense approach a
staple of his business. He opened 16 years ago and spent about a year
slaving over the stoves developing the menu.
That's when the eatery became famous for doing things its way.
Pischke said people would get irked if their meals weren't served
fast enough, and he recalled saying, "I'm the owner; I'm back ...
