DENVER - There's a new cowboy in El Paso County's General
Assembly delegation.
He's Ken Chlouber, a Republican from Leadville who now represents
about 25,000 residents in the northern part of the county.
Chlouber, one of the most charismatic members of the state Senate,
is a maverick and a throwback to a different era.
He's built like an ox, has long hair, wears Western suits, big
belt-buckles and wraparound sunglasses. He once was a hard-rock
miner. He is a bull rider, donkey racer and long-distance runner.
He rides a Harley, drives a black, Chevy pickup with flames and
fights for gun rights. On one hand he votes for tax cuts (Republicans
love that) and with the other votes to give unions ...
