Sand Creek was within one play of pulling close to Limon in the third quarter.

But Limon stood its ground on fourth down, then marched down the field for a touchdown to pull away with a 38-6 nonleague win in both teams' season opener at Sand Creek on Saturday afternoon.

"In the second half, we really started to pull together as a team," said Sand Creek quarterback John Olsen, who at one point completed seven-straight passes. "We got our heads in the game, and it showed."

The Scorpions' first-year coach, Mark Fisher, said that pivotal point in the third quarter when his team came up empty was costly.

"Momentum really took a turn at that point," he said.
