WHERE: Southwest of Lake George in Park County.
TO GET THERE: Take U.S. Highway 24 west to Lake George. Turn left
at the sign to Elevenmile Canyon and drive on gravel road into the
canyon.
TRIP LOG: Variable mileage, 500-foot elevation gain; one boot
(easy).
THE HIKE: Sometimes the best planned day of hiking goes awry,
spoiled by a wrong turn, a cloud clogged sky, an unmarked and
unnoticed trailhead. But sometimes the unexpected can be a good
thing.
A day spent recently at Elevenmile Canyon was just that.
We had planned to hike a fairly new trail at nearby Eleven Mile
Reservoir State Park (we'll feature that in a future Happy Trails),
