Last November, Eleonore Wagner bought an Ultrex thermal, double-
wall, 91/2-inch frying pan with buffet handles and glass-top lid for
$35 on the Home Shopping Network.
A month later, the Reston resident got a call from the company
that markets Ultrex kitchenware warning her to stop using the pan
immediately and look for an explanation in the mail.
Innova Inc., an importer based in Davenport, Iowa, officially
recalled 8,700 Ultrex frying pans in January. The company had
received 16 reports of the frying pans exploding when preheating or
frying, including two cases in which consumers received burns from
hot oil and eight cases of property damage. The voluntary recall,
