Article: Councilman's comparison sparks backlash from Simla

A Colorado Springs city councilman's comments about Simla are drawing some big anger from the little town.

Simla Mayor Lester Berry wants an apology from Councilman Tom Gallagher -- or an explanation why Gallagher compared overgrown yards to the Elbert County town of 650.

Gallagher recently objected to a proposal to let some grasses in Colorado Springs grow higher than the 9-inch maximum allowed. "Otherwise, we look like Simla," he said. "We don't look like a city."

When Berry learned of the comment, he wondered why Gallagher singled out his town.

So he called Colorado Springs City Hall on Thursday and left a message. As of Monday morning, he hadn't heard back from Gallagher.
