Article: Meal sweetens ties after councilman stereotypes Simla

SIMLA - Colorado Springs City Councilman Tom Gallagher, who disparaged the rural town of Simla with an offhand comment about its weeds, sat at a table in a Simla cafe Thursday morning and prepared to eat a large helping of crow.

Instead, Gallagher got a ham-and-cheese omelet and a side of toast and potatoes, paid for by Simla Mayor Lester Berry.

"I understand how these things happen," said Berry, sitting next to Gallagher at a table at the Country Corner Cafe. "This is a good chance for us to get together. I have a lot of respect for Tom coming out here. He's a busy man."

The meeting was to mend fences between the large city in the west and the tiny town to the east.
