For Thia Luby, yoga is about balance.

A sense of inner balance. Balance between strength and flexibility. Balancing life's many demands.

In nature, that balance already exists, with the four elements -- fire, earth, air and water. In her book "Yoga of Nature," Luby copies nature, tying yoga poses to the four elements. Earth poses, for example, are intended to make one grounded and energized. Water poses, some patterned after creatures of the sea, promote moving in a more fluid way.

"It's very easy to imitate things in nature with your body," Luby says.
