House panel OKs bill curbing toll road plans Measure would reduce area that could be claimed by project planners

DENVER - A House committee approved legislation Thursday that would place tough restrictions on a controversial private toll road proposed for eastern Colorado.

Unlike other legislation moving moving through the General Assembly, House Bill 1342 by Rep. Jack Pommer, D-Louisville, doesn't aim to drive a stake through the 250-mile private toll road running between Fort Collins and Pueblo.

Rural residents of the seven counties affected -- including El Paso County -- have protested the plan, dubbed Super Slab, set forth by the Front Range Toll Road Co. Inc.
