Article: 12-year-old honored as 'Hero' Girl raises money for research on her sisters' disease -- cystic fibrosis

At age 12, Hanna Pelican is a seasoned fundraiser.

Since she was 5, the Colorado Springs girl has spoken to audiences about cystic fibrosis, a genetic disease that severely affects the respiratory and digestive systems. She has taken part in community walks, held garage sales and manned lemonade stands, all to raise money for the fight against cystic fibrosis.

It's a fight she takes personally: Her two sisters, Samantha, 24, and Libby, 21, have the disease.

"The more people who know about it, the better," Hanna says. "The more money that gets raised, the more research that gets done."
