Article: Shortstop Barmes to play in Double-A next week

DENVER - Clint Barmes, the Rockies shortstop who was a leading candidate for the National League's Rookie of the Year honors until he fractured his left clavicle on June 5, will return to baseball sometime next week in a rehabilitation stint with the Double-A Tulsa Drillers.

The date has not been determined, although it likely will occur while the Rockies are on a nine-game road trip that begins Monday.

Barmes, who says his recovery process is ahead of schedule, is hoping to return to the Rockies on Sept. 2 when they host the Los Angeles Dodgers at Coors Field.

"It's painful just sitting and watching, especially if I know I'm healthy," Barmes said before the Rockies-Brewers game Tuesday. ...
