LARAMIE, Wyo. - Mick McMurry and John Martin could have named the
new turf field at the University of Wyoming's War Memorial Stadium
anything they wanted.
After all, the field was paid for with part of the $5 million gift
the two Wyoming entrepreneurs made to the school's athletic
department.
But the pair passed on a selfaggrandizing name like McMurry-
Martin Field or Martin-Mc-Murry Field and decided upon Jonah Field --
a tribute to an oil and natural-gas field of the same name in
northwest Wyoming that made their gift possible.
"Because that's where the money's coming from," McMurry said
recently at his office in Casper. "It isn't the McMurrys, it isn't
the Martins, it's the oil and gas ...
