Kimberley and Roger Ward knew exactly what kind of place they wanted for their retirement.

The house had to be brand new so it would be easy to care for, and it had to be one level so they wouldn't have to climb stairs as they got older.

What they got instead: an 1887 Queen Anne-style mansion in Palmer Lake called the Estemere Estate, with a billiards room, conservatory and library worthy of the board game Clue, old stairways steep enough for training for the Pikes Peak Ascent, and a gang of five centenarian outbuildings.
