Article: Veterans groups thinking young Organizations aim for Iraq troops to beef up ranks

Graying veterans groups in Colorado Springs and the nation are trying to get younger, but it's not going to be easy.

Big Band-era organizations such as the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion are trying to attract the hip-hop crowd that's been fighting in Iraq. In every aspect, from changing the music at their dances to helping young troops connect with federal benefits, they're courting a new generation.

"You have to reach out to them," said Joe Tanner, a Colorado Springs veteran who heads a VFW outreach program. "We will work with them."
