Leah Bishop prefers the old way of visiting inmates at El Paso County's jail -- in person instead of using a video screen.

But she said the new setup has one perk.

"The only good thing about it is you don't have to wait in line forever," Bishop said.

Before the jail switched to video visitation in March, inmates were separated from visitors by Plexiglas and talked on phones. But it caused problems, said El Paso County sheriff's officials, who run the jail south of Colorado Springs.

Some slipped drugs and other contraband to inmates through small holes in the Plexiglas. The contraband included cigarettes and lingerie, but sometimes visitors couldn't slip the items through the Plexiglas ...
