DENVER - If Jamey Carroll produces in May like he did in April, he
might not care where he's positioned in the Colorado Rockies' batting
order.
Carroll went 0-for-1 from the leadoff spot but drew two walks and
laid down a sacrifice bunt Saturday in Colorado's 5-0 win over
Houston. He showed no signs of slowing after a blistering April in
which he hit .351 and scored seven runs.
Most of the season, Carroll has batted second or seventh. He
likely will receive a majority of his at-bats from the No. 2 spot as
long as Rockies manager Clint Hurdle continues having slumping
shortstop Clint Barmes bat seventh.
