Article: Barmes repays Rockies' faith

DENVER - The Colorado Rockies' patience with Clint Barmes has paid off because Barmes' patience at the plate has paid off.

The times are few that a major league team will allow a young player to trudge through the depression of an extended slump without intervention. But that's what the Rockies did. Barmes batted .116 through 25 games in May. He increased that to a meager .234 in June.

Impatience was Barmes' master when the reverse should've been true. If it was a pitch, Barmes liked it.

"I was trying to get a hit on every pitch," Barmes said. "I'd jump on it, and it didn't take long for everybody to know that."
