When the ambulances raced past Maynard Steel Casting Co. on their
way to the accident scene at Falk Corp., it was a chilling sight for
Bob Thill, Maynard's president.
The companies are competitors, but the employees share a common
affinity for the metal-casting industry.
"More than ever, we are concerned about the people involved. They
are people like you and I, but they're probably more like us," Thill
said.
Falk makes gears, couplings, chains, bearings and other
industrial components. Some of the company's gears are among the
largest in the world and are used in mining shovels made by P&H
Mining Equipment Co., also of Milwaukee.
