As the lights go up, the focus is on an old man who tells an
enthusiastic story to a small group of children, and to the audience
of Montgomery Blair's production of "A Christmas Carol."
The narrative soon leads into the familiar holiday tale, written
by Charles Dickens in 1843 and adapted many times since. The plot
follows the miserly financier Ebenezer Scrooge through a Victorian
Christmas Eve and Christmas day, his nighttime visitors of ghosts
and spirits, and the memories and visions which have a profound
effect on his opinions about charity and kindness.
The atmosphere of Montgomery Blair's production was highly
