Article: Natale Moves to Switch; Democrats Court Eberwein

Seven weeks have passed since the Alexandria City Council elections, but fallout from the Democratic sweep continues.

Matthew T. Natale, who twice ran unsuccessfully for city council as a GOP candidate, has filled out an application to become a registered Democrat. Citing concerns with the politics and philosophy of national and state Republicans and the current direction of the local party, Natale told Democratic Party chair Susan Kellom last week that he wants to be part of her team.

Natale officially resigned from the GOP last month. He will apply for the Democrats' blessing during the party's August meeting, and his application will be voted up or down in September.
