Charlie Tolchin, 34, an advertising account executive, most
recently with America Online, and a cystic fibrosis patient for
almost 30 years, died Aug. 7 at Georgetown University Hospital of
complications related to cystic fibrosis.
Mr. Tolchin was 5 years old when his cystic fibrosis, a genetic
lung and digestive disorder, was diagnosed, and his parents were told
at the time that he would probably die by the age of 8.
Daily for almost three decades, he underwent up to five hours of
physical therapy, nebulizer treatments and exercise programs to
strengthen the breathing capacity of his severely impaired lungs,
while simultaneously raising money for research on cystic fibrosis.
