Mike Duggan, 56, who helped establish Knight Ridder/Tribune News
Service 30 years ago and later became its director in Washington,
died of a heart attack Aug. 15 at Inova Fair Oaks Hospital, after
collapsing at his Fairfax County home.
The news service began with 25 newspaper clients and now is
distributed to more than 500 papers worldwide. Mr. Duggan was its
news editor and managing editor before being named director. He also
was director of Knight Ridder/Tribune's services for special reports,
