Howard W. Flieger, 75, a scientist who specialized in the design
and testing of communications satellites for the Communications
Satellite Corp., died Dec. 6 at Washington Hospital Center after open-
heart surgery.
Mr. Flieger retired from Comsat in 1989, after 22 years with the
organization. His work involved testing methods and developing the
design and fabrication concepts that would enable communication
satellites to endure the temperature extremes of space orbits up to
22,000 miles above the Earth.
In retirement, he was a consultant on temperature regulation to
the satellite industry.
A resident of Bethesda, Mr. Flieger was born in Kansas City, Mo.
