Four unanswered first-half goals helped the Stone Bridge boys'
soccer team defeat previously unbeaten Fauquier, 5-2, in a Virginia
AA Region II quarterfinal yesterday.
The Bulldogs (12-5-1) advanced to tomorrow's semifinal game
against Harrisonburg, and they would qualify for the state tournament
with a victory. Sixth-ranked Fauquier completed its season at 19-1.
The host Falcons had not yielded more than two goals in a game all
season, but Stone Bridge senior forward Jimmy Smariga and defender
Hussein Shaban stunned the Northwestern District champions by each
scoring before the 10th minute.
