In the art of Sara Schneidman, the riotous color of French artist
Henri Matisse meets the folksy charm of Grandma Moses.
Bright fuchsia, canary yellow and acid green pulse from human
figures, animals, hearts and flowers. A pink-skirted woman stands
astride a white horse galloping under a cobalt blue sky. A leaf green
alligator wriggles across a field of tomato red. Orange poppies burst
from a vase dotted in turquoise and indigo.
Recently, these vibrant images, originally expressed in paintings,
stationery, note cards and journals, have begun appearing in wool
rugs, needlepoint pillows and glazed ceramic pots.
