A couple's renovation of an apartment to retail use has inspired
their landlord to draft plans to create an upscale shopping and
dining area in the development for remaining tenants and shoppers in
Old Town Manassas.
Until recently, Opera Alley, off Center Street between Battle and
Main streets, consisted solely of rental units. The alley, and the
buildings creating it, were purchased by Lino Laudiero at an estate
liquidation in December 2000 for $1.2 million. For the first 12
months of his ownership, it was business as usual. All that changed
when he was approached by Gloria St. Germain.
Gloria and Mark St. Germain moved to the Manassas area from
