Yves Saint Laurent, the legendary couturier who revolutionized
women's fashion and whose YSL symbol became synonymous with the
glamorous age of Paris design in the 1960s and '70s, announced today
he was stepping down from haute couture and closing the house he
founded 40 years ago.
"I have decided today to bid farewell to the world of fashion I so
love," the reclusive Saint Laurent, 65, told a jampacked audience at
the house that bears his name, addressing in somber tones what is
believed to be his first-ever news conference. But he answered no
