Dear Dr. Fox:
In one of your past columns, you mentioned that it was important
to have a good photograph of your pet (or pets) on hand in case one
of them gets lost or stolen. It certainly makes sense. I have a dog
and a cat, and both are very dear to me. I'm planning to take
pictures of them soon. I don't know what I'd do if Bucky or Sissy got
lost or taken by someone! Can you please advise what kind of photo is
best for identification purposes?

To get clear photos for identification purposes, use a plain
background, such as a wall in your home, or the outside of your
house. Do not shoot down on the animal, because that won't yield a
