There were times three years ago when the thought meandered
through Joe Saunders's mind. Then 17 years old, he wondered if he had
he done the right thing, passing up $150,000 and the chance to be a
professional athlete right out of high school. What teenager wouldn't
second-guess that decision?
This spring, though, Saunders isn't wondering. Neither are the
dozens of major league baseball executives and scouts who have
focused radar guns on each pitch thrown by the Virginia Tech junior
left-hander, who is a potential top-five pick in the amateur draft
June 4.
"Barring something absolutely catastrophic, he is going to get
