Burma's ruling military junta earlier this month agreed to pay
more than $450,000 a year to a lobbying firm with ties to President
Bush to help push for the normalization of relations between the
United States and the impoverished Southeast Asian nation.
The Burmese government began negotiating an agreement with DCI
Associates in April, including making a $100,000 deposit, shortly
before authorities agreed to release from house arrest the Nobel
Peace Prize-winning activist Aung San Suu Kyi, according to documents
filed by DCI with the Justice Department.
