The Frying Pan in Lusby -- a diner extraordinaire -- has an
unassuming appearance from the road. As you pull into the parking
lot, worn by years of comings and goings, there is not much to get
excited about.
Not much, that is, unless you are being dropped off by the school
bus where your mom works. That was 10th-grader Lisa Howard's story
during a period when her mother, Faynette Johnson, cooked for the
restaurant daily for 14 years. Howard helped after school with table-
setting and dishwashing at first until mom finished up in the
kitchen. When she was in her junior year at Calvert High School, she
