With just six weeks until their jobs are abolished, Prince
George's County school board members are trying to leave a legacy: a
$1.14 billion budget.
Even as the governor was sending out letters soliciting
applications for the new nine-member appointed board, some members of
the elected board said they want to finish next year's budget before
they leave office June 1.
"I think it will be in the best interest of taxpayers and
employees of the system that this board be able to reconcile the
budget. Those who are coming in are inexperienced," said board member
